Phytoplankton?

Yesterday we listened to a young red head speak about the connectedness of the earth. She talked about the currents of the oceans and how they affect the phytoplankton which produce half of the oxygen we breath. She spoke with awe about how you can see the colonies of green phytoplankton from space. She had brought her own notes so as not to forget any of the information she wanted to share.

I googled phytoplankton to make sure I could spell it. haha Here's a link that popped up. The site was created by a 10 year old from New York. Note the web addres: http://childrenoftheearth.org/Kid's%20Entries/phytoplankton.htm

How much do you think global awareness of young people and their ability to share information instantaneously now plays into the evolutionary leap Eckart suggests we must make?

I feel like our kids get it. Bryce got me a cloth grocery bag for mother's day. I have used it and used it but not for groceries. I recently got that email about the plastic bags with all the statics... numbers always stick with me. I'll forward the email if anyone is interested. Says if 1 out of 5 of americans will use one cloth bag rather than plastic, that in our lifetime over 1.3 trillion plastic bags will have been avoided in the landfills and oceans. Wow. I'm making a new commitment today with three bags. Anyone want to join me. Thanks Brenna and Bryce, Love Jenn

The last 2 Tuesdays at Lunch Bunch we've had kids who shared their feelings and ideas very articulately. Besides enjoying what they had to say, I appreciate the fact that they felt comfortable interacting with adults. It gives me hope for the future of this blue ball we live on.

And, Jenn, I have had cloth bags for years (old hippie!) and just got out of the habit of using them. You've given me a nudge and I'm putting them in my car! I just hope I can remember them when I get to the store!
